I wanted throw up a quick post and give a shout out to my buddy Matt (Rage) who plays in “Schnockered”. They are tearing it up on the East Coast and around Florida. Just a matter of time until they are known across the entire country. I’ll be posting more of their music soon, they have done some studio stuff themselves and it sounds amazing!

I predict Schnockered will be the #1 Indie Music Band of 2013 – You heard it here first! I’m not bullshitting either, these guys are the real deal! Do me a favor and give them some “love on Facebook” – These guys have real talent, and they have been very selective about their band mates. They take their work serious, and that as we have seen in the past is key to making it.

Lemme hear what you guys think of this, like it? Hate it? Personally I like it, I’m waiting for him to really let loose and stop holding back.

It seems when artists finally do that, they really touch something deep down. The problem is sometimes these guys just don’t have that much to say. Or maybe they just suck at saying it? Either way, if I’m spending my time listening, I expect to “hear” something worthy.

Ruben Nielsen, the front man of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, has made the jump from druggie lo-fi pop rocker to faux mo-town singer in the span of a few weeks. ”So Good” is like a nostalgic look back at funk for people who weren’t around to hear it the first time around. Whatever it may be, it has a slick bass groove and the best hook I’ve heard so far this year. Their sophomore effort II is out 2/5 .

Beach Fossils – Careless

Beach Fossils new single Careless is out. It possibly showcases a new sonic direction the band is taking. Gone are the clangy reverb drenched pop guitars of their previous efforts of the What a Pleasure EP and their self titled debut. It is a nice update to their surf rock sound, but seems to venture into the neo-shoegaze sound that guitar player Zachary Cole Smith’s band DIIV already pioneered.

‘Clash the Truth’ will be available February 19th, on Captured Tracks.

Chromatics – Cherry

Chromatics have already released one excellent album this year, Kill For Love, and now they are releasing singles for the upcoming Italians Do It Better Compilation After Dark 2. Their latest single is less rockish than much of Kill For Love and the production sounds like a non minimalist xx song might.

Big Boi featuring A$AP Rocky and Phantogram – Lines

Here is a song that displays the dissolving of lines between the differnt indie scenes. The celebrated rappers A$AP Rocky and Big Boi teaming with the electrpop group Phantogram, who provide a few hooks and production, seems like a bad idea from the start- but it works surprisingly well.

Indian – Carelakers

In a month of heavyweight releases from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor; it is easy to miss some of the more underground releases like Indians new single Carelakers. It is just a pretty pop song with a charmingly inconsistent guitar riff that makes you wish fall would last a little longer. His debut album Somewhere Else will be released January 2013 via 4ad.
