Lotus Plaza – Monoliths

The latest track from Deerhunter’s guitarist Lockett Pundt’s solo side project Lotus Plaza is “Monoliths”.  “Monoliths” shows Lockett Pundt truely transcending sideman status. Its strangely pop opening morphs into a driving guitar powerhouse that shows off Pundt’s skills as both a guitar player and a singer.  His delivery of “I’ll come around” late in the song is reminiscent of Interpol’s Untitled, only much less depressingly delivered.  This song is easily better than anything Bradford Cox’s solo effort Atlas Sound has done.  Lockett Pundt is no longer the shy Jimmy Page to Bradford Cox’s outspoken Robert Plant.  Pundt is letting the world know he  is as much an artistic force as his counterpart. Spooky Action At A Distance is out now via Kranky records.
